What Does God Expect of Me?

1 Tim. 2:3-4  “This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.”

THE BIBLE SAYS GOD WANTS US “TO BE SAVED”

Do you believe you have been saved?    _ YES,  _ NO,  _ UNSURE

If so, what did you do to receive forgiveness of your sins?

THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE TO “COME TO A KNOWLEDGE OF THE TRUTH”

Ephesians 5:17 “Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is.”  

Question: How do I determine what God's will is?     _ listen to what men say, or _ listen to what God says in the Bible?

Luke 16:15 “He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.”  

Question:  What is most important?    _ what man says we should do,  or _ what God says we should do?

Mark 7:7-8  “They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.'  You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men."  And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!”  

Question: How should we worship God?  According to: _ rules and ways taught by men, or  _ what God tells us in the Bible to do.

John 20:30-31 “Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book. But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”  

Question: Do I believe what the Bible says about the life of Jesus Christ?      _ Yes, _ I'm not sure

Hebrews 5:9 “and, once made perfect, he (Christ) became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him”   Question: Do I want to obey him so that I will have eternal salvation?  _ Yes, _ I'm not sure

THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE TO BELIEVE IN JESUS

John 3:16-18 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.”  

Question:  Do I believe Jesus Christ is the one and only son of God?     _ Yes I do,  _ I'm not sure

THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE TO REPENT OF OUR SINS

Acts 17:30-31 “In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.”  

Question: Am I sorry for the sins I have committed in the past and want to live in accordance with God's will (i.e., what the Bible tells you)?         _ Yes, _ No

THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE TO CONFESS THAT JESUS IS OUR LORD

Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”  

Question: Do I believe Jesus is Lord and that God raised him from the dead?    _ Yes I do,  _ I'm not sure

THE BIBLE SAYS WE ARE TO UNITE WITH CHRIST IN BAPTISM TO RECEIVE FORGIVENESS

Acts 2:38 “Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”  

Question: Have I been baptized in the way the Lord commanded for the reason the Lord commanded?   _ Yes, _ No, _ I'm not sure

Romans 6:4-5 “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.”  

Question: Have I been "buried" (i.e., immersed) with Christ in baptism?   _ Yes,  _ No

THE BIBLE SAYS IF WE LOVE JESUS WE WILL OBEY HIM

John 14:15 “If you love me, you will obey what I command.”   Question: Do I love Jesus enough to obey what He has commanded in the Bible?  _ Yes,  _ No,  _ I'm not sure

Matthew 22:37-38 “Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment.”   Question: Am I willing to put what God wants ahead of all others?   _ Yes,  _ No,  _ I'm not sure

John 14:23-24 “Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.”   Question:  Do I love Jesus and am I willing to confirm my love by obeying His teaching?     _ Yes,  _ No,  _ I'm not sure

2 Thessalonians 1:8 “He will punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.”   Question:  Do I believe God will punish me if I do not obey the gospel of Jesus Christ?        _ Yes, _ No, _ I'm not sure

Hebrews 10:25 “Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.”

Question:  Do I want to go to Church services and Bibles classes to worship God and be encouraged?   _ Yes,  _ No,  _ I'm not sure

1 John 5:13 "I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life." 

Question:  Am I confident I have obeyed God's will that I have just read about?  I have “knowledge of the truth”, right from God’s word, and I can “be saved” as God wants by doing what He has asked --- by being united with Christ through baptism and receiving forgiveness of my sins.  _ Yes,  _ No,  _ I'm not sure

Question:  Do I want to be saved by being united with Christ in baptism for the forgiveness of my sins?  _ Yes,  _ No

Matthew 7:13-14 13 "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. 14 But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it."  

Question:  Am I actively seeking to do God's will first in my life vs. seeking my selfish desires first?   _ Yes,  _ No,
